Kengis Bruk 2022

It is always with butterflies in the stomach that we are getting ready in late may for the upcoming season. How will it start? Are the fish arrived and how will the season be? In the beginning of the season it feels like forever till 31/8 when it ends, but in what feels like no time a salmon season is over. It is short and intense and everything needs to be ready for three months of hardcore baltic salmon fishing.

When we look back at our 2022 season it is with a strange feeling of happiness and some expectations that might not got fulfilled. Let’s dive into that; We are always happy to welcome guests from all over the world to fish our big waters at Kengis Bruk. To get them into our Kengis family for one week and show them Kengis feeling.

It makes us happy to see happy guests and we are at a point now where our guests understand the difficulties in catching a Baltic salmon, so the reward comes when we see the big smiles when it happens. Words can’t describe that feeling - when Kengis feeling and a baltic salmon unites.

If we look at the fishing season from a little nerdy perspective and look at the expectations, then this season we had the best average fishing in many seasons. Until the last one and a half week of August we had landed fish in all weeks and bigger sizes this year.

This year we had quite many lost fish also and the thin line between a landed and lost fish is so sharp and that is a game you need to accept when playing with the nature. If we look at the expectations, they were high after last season over 90.000 fish in the river and many fish landed, this year we just passed 50.000 fish and for most of the season we had 1/2 as many fish in the river as the year before and that will effect the fishing.

The fish was in same good conditions as last season, so we cross fingers that it is a positive tendency and it will continue next year. So overall the fishing this year has been really good.

This year we had a high water year and we can’t even imagine how the season could have been if we had last years numbers and this years water level, but that is a dream, and who knows? Maybe one year it will happen. But we promise ourselves each year to remember that we never know anything when we work with the nature.

As a new thing this year we had upgraded our shop at the lodge with more merchandise, more Swedish products and we are really thankful that you supported our shop so well this season. We love to share good products with our guests and we will keep doing our best to have good products in our little shop.

Now we look forward to next year. It can feel like a long time, but before we know we are close to 1st of June and the butterflies comes back. We will keep working hard to give all our guests a great experience and memories to bring home from Kengis Bruk.

Thank you so much for supporting Kengis Bruk and following. We do our best to tell the full story around a Baltic salmon destination and share Kengis feeling.

Tight lines from the Kengis family!
