Week 35 Big smiles & good food

Yes! Another week without any action for our guests. It is super tough when the fishing is slow and the guests keep on fighting to catch a baltic salmon, but that is a part of the game. Then it makes it even more important to keep the big smiles and make other good memories.

So what happened at Kengis Bruk the last weeks of the season? We did not see the same amount of fish holding up at zone 1 as we normally do and overall we did not see the same amount of fish moving. Our river are big, and if there are less fish at our zones they are not fighting over the spots with other fish as we see sometimes. The high water gave the fish good conditions to continue the journey upstream. Another thought could be, that the fish stopped more downstream. We heard good reports from downstream with good numbers caught. But in the end we don’t know and that is a part of the game when you work with the nature.

So what did we do the last days of the season? Had fun, shared good food and memories.

We had a visit from our goof friends from Finland. Heidi, Sara, Sirly, Ossi & Toni.

Heidi, Sirly and Ossi has been at Kengis before, but are still quite new to fly fishing for salmon, but they did super good. All improved on the casting and especially Ossi. Toni was all new to fly fishing and with a couple of days the double spey cast was flying. Toni was a quick learner and next time we cross fingers that a baltic salmon will strike his fly.

Sara was also new to fly fishing, but with some practice with the roll cast she ended up with a very good double spey and who knows? Maybe next season a salmon will strike the fly! Sara did land her first fish on fly at Kengis. When grayling fishing with Heidi. To see her smile on her face said it all.

Sirly is a fantastic chef and she made some really good food for us in the last days of the season! First we had a traditional crayfish dinner and then a memorable risotto with fresh shot forrest bird. Ossi went hunting some hours and Sirly prepared a fantastic risotto. Small things that creates memories. Fresh from the forrest to the dinner table.

At the riverside Ossi was the grill master! A good sausage before a run in the pool is always good!

That was it! 2022 season is over. Now it’s time to reflect on the season and start looking at 2023.

We are thankful for all the guests visiting us, sharing Kengis feeling and making good memories. It means a lot to us.

Next blog will be our season recap blog, so stay tuned for an 2022 update.

Thank you!
