For the nerds - all about statistics

This one is for the nerds or the ones that want more statistics in their salmon fishing.

So if you are more into fish, great fights and beautiful pictures go look at our profile and get inspired, but if you want to learn a little about us, keep on reading. :)

We will go back to 2017 when we started to fill in rapports from our fishing and up to 2025.

We have used some shorter words in the pictures, but we hope you understand. F = float S = Sink and so on.

Some of the categories covers more than one specific line, but they are all within ex. Float - Sink 2-4

But first a disclaimer; It is not all lines or flies that we have put into our journals over the years, so the number of lines and flies don't match up if you go into counting mode.

And salmon flies OTHERS do represent a whole lot of different flies. Some more traditional and some very specific.

Here is a little list;

  • All sorts of Black & (some colour)

  • Gary

  • Lucy

  • Namsen spec.

  • Cascade

  • Green butt

  • Undertaker

  • Snelda

  • Your boys name

  • Your daughters name

  • Monkey

  • Sunray

  • Bruno

  • Thunder & Lightning

  • Golder killer

And so on.

Just to say that there are no rules regarding flies.

But let's dive in into the details:

2017 is our first year as an operating lodge and the year to learn a lot about our guests and our potential.

There had been fishermen around before 2017, but no real statistics or data on the fishing.

We did not have so many guests in 2027 so the numbers are based on more or less a half season.

In 2018 our concept was starting to get formed and we had a better season regarding bookings. We also had a record breaking warm summer and that made the fishing difficult for most parts of the season. But we had a strong finish.

2019 started like nothing we have ever experienced or maybe will again. Really huge fish and many. That was crazy.

Our lodge started to get traction on the market and we once again had a good season with a decent booking overall.

We all remember 2020. That was strange, but also in a way a turning point for us. We evaluated the concept and after losing all bookings we managed to get an almost full season with “locals” from Scandinavia. Fishing wise it was a very difficult year. But we hoped for better years to come.

2021: Back to more normal standards and a year where our new concept was ready. We had a great season with good fishing all the way to the end of the season. We were happy and so were the guests.

At the lodge we were almost sold out. So many skilled fishermen were a part of this season.

In 2022 we started to see a decrease in the number of salmon rising in the river, but we still had a good year.

Once again an almost full booked season.

Maybe the most difficult year for us in our lodge history.

Nature did not want to play with us in 2023 and the number of fish rising was low. It was difficult, but we worked on the Kengis feeling and got to understand that we can't control nature. But we can control our concept and get wiser on how important service is for our guests.

But we had built up a strong connection to our guests and once again was almost fully booked.

Things picked up a little bit in 2024 and we saw some positive trends in the rise of fish and with a fully booked season we were ready. It was not quite the season we hoped for, but better than the year before.

And then in 2025 it was like things turned around. We still had, what we consider low numbers rising in the river, but it was a great season.

Fully booked. Big fish and happy guests. We could not ask for more!

So to roughly sum it all up here is an overview of the numbers:

It is difficult to draw any conclusions on this, but it might give you some perspective on our operation and what kind of lined and flies that works great at Kengis Bruk.

Please let us know if you have any questions regarding this or something else about Kengis Bruk.

And thank you to our followers for the idea of diving into this.

Tight lines!
