What do you need on a trip to Kengis?

First of all thank you for choosing Kengis Bruk as your destination. We are super happy for the support we get from all over the world.

When going to Kengis Bruk you need some basic things to make your stay as easy as possible.

Before diving into that we will share some general info of what you can find at Kengis Bruk.

All our fishing zones are provided with:

  • Mugs and pans for a nice cup of coffee on the riverbank

  • Firewood

  • Barbecue setup

  • Net for landing the Baltic salmon safely

When you are at Kengis Bruk we have several demo rods that are free to use for our guests. So you can bring a line setup and fish a high end rod from LOOP TACKLE all week if you want to try something new.

In case you need anything our fly shop has the most needed things for a week's fishing. Flies, tippet, leaders, flybox, shootingline, lines, hooks and so on.

Rods & reels

12-16 feet class 7-10

Early season requires the heavy rods and late season the light tackle.

If you should bring only one rod a 14’ #9 rod is perfect.

Reels with a strong break and enough backing.

Lines, leaders & tippet

We suggest coming prepared with shooting heads and or versi tips with variable sinking rates in floating down to the heaviest sinking densities.

15 feet tapered leaders with a tippet range between 0.35mm and 0.52mm.

Tippet from 0.30mm to 0.52mm.

Salmon flies

The most important thing is that you believe in the fly! The name and or style of the fly comes second. Make sure you bring flies in sizes from 2cm - 10cm. Make sure your hooks are strong and sharp!

Check our last blog about flies if you want to read more.

Clothing

Layers are definitely the key! You will need warm underwear and thick socks, wool/merino wool is best. A warm hat and a warm down or primaloft jacket will be needed for the cold nights and mornings, waders and a wading jacket or any other type of shell jacket.

Don’t forget

Mosquito spray or roll on mosquito repellent such as "Jungle Oil" or "Mygga" is strongly advised. A wading staff is always good to have on hand, a life jacket is advised for guests who require the extra security and don't forget your camera to capture the special moments!

Check our the link for what to bring on our website!

Tight lines!
