Week 27 Friends & Family

This week we welcomed same group as last year. It is always nice to see familiar faces at Kengis Bruk and it is special to have families visiting us. This week Chance and his family was back and his friend Jihu had his grandson with him. We love to share good great moments with different generations at Kenigs all in search of the big baltic salmon.

Jouni, Janna and Risto was also back and we will get back to a special story about Jouni later.

Big fish Oscar was back in hopes of another Big baltic salmon. This year he did his best once again and proved that he know how to catch salmon at Kengis Bruk, but it was not one of the really big ones this time. Still a fantastic fish and each baltic salmon is something special.

Jihu was the first to catch a baltic salmon this week and what a great story for him. All alone in boat pool an early morning. And with a good run of fish you know that it is the place to catch a big fish. Jihu managed to hook and land a 110cm big baltic salmon all by himself. And he said” I got it, I finally got it” We know that feeling and it is special.

Jihu and Chance did find some more fish in the fast water. In general it was a week with good action and active fish.

Oscar also caught a nice trout on single hand rod. We dream about the big baltic salmon, but the river has many great experiences to offer.

And now on to the story about Jouni and his friends. Last year they were unlucky with the weather and let’s just say that this year Jouni was unlucky with the baltic salmon.

Here is his words from week 27: “The week started with 30 degrees in the air and around 21 in the water. Nothing happened with the salmon.

Next day the temperature dropped to around 20 in the water and we lost 2 salmon. Wednesday was quite slow, but then Thursday we experienced the craziest 6 hours of salmon fishing ever in our salmon history. The rumor said that there was thousands of fish waiting south of Kengis Bruk and we think they started to move when the water temperature went down to 18 degrees. On my six rounds in the famous boat pool, I hooked into 5 fish that all went straight into the rapids, and I lost them. The first fish straightened the hook. Another one I flighted for 45min. with dangerous wading around a small island and continued the fight in the next pool. At the end I lost the hookset and lost the fish. Then another fish took 200m backing straight away got stock in a stone and I lost the line and everything. What a week.

In total we hooked 13 fish, all lost. We just need to conclude that the Baltic salmon is something special looking at the aggression and power they possess. A fantastic trout, a pike was all we landed this week. We fished the south bank all week and we will be back next year again. And then we wish for more friendly Baltic salmon to strike our flies.

Thank you for a fantastic week at Kengis Bruk. Chance and his family will stay for one more week. Let’s see if they continue to find the fish at Kengis?

Tight lines!
