Week 34 – Coming Home to Kengis

Is there anything more unique and memorable than getting your best friends together, traveling north of the polar circle and fishing for mighty Baltic salmon? Our friends of week 34 are specialists in creating unique and memorable experiences that will be remembered. 

And the fishing? That was pretty good. 

This was not the group’s first visit. We have known them for many years, and welcoming them back feels less like receiving guests and more like welcoming old friends home.

For them, returning to Kengis has become an annual tradition – a familiar place where they can leave everyday life behind and simply enjoy a week together. The river, the surroundings and the familiar faces all create the feeling of coming home.

The days were spent fishing, while the evenings were all about good food, something good to drink and plenty of stories and laughter. Old memories were revisited, new ones were made, and everyone settled naturally into the familiar rhythm of life by the river.

The fishing gave the group plenty to celebrate. Four salmon were landed, and almost everyone had the opportunity to fight a fish. Every take and every fight added another story to the week.

One of the greatest moments belonged to Anders, who landed a magnificent 94-centimetre male salmon – a new personal best. It was a fantastic fish and an achievement made even more memorable by having close friends there to share the feeling.

For Michael, the week brought a long-awaited reward. After fighting and losing several salmon, he continued casting and refused to give up. Eventually, everything came together, and he finally landed a beautiful fish and his smile says it all.

The relief and happiness surrounding the catch showed why persistence matters so much in salmon fishing. Every lost fish can be frustrating, but it also makes the moment of success feel even greater.

Four salmon were landed during Week 34 and several lost, but the true value of the week cannot be measured in numbers. It was found in the shared meals, the laughter, the familiar stories and the excitement of being together again.

There is something unique about a group of friends setting aside one week every year simply to enjoy fishing and each other’s company. The salmon made the week exciting, but the friendship, tradition and feeling of coming home made it unforgettable.
