Week 33 Welcome back

This week we had Richard and Patrick back for their second trip to Kengis Bruk this season. They had their friend Shawn with them this time to show him some Kengis feeling. And let’s just say that Richard got what he came for.

Late season is always tricky to predict. When will the fish stop and for how long. What we have seen this season is that due to the less fish in the river than the past years, the window of activity can be very small. As a baltic salmon fishermen at Kengis Bruk and in our big baltic rivers it is important to know that the fish migrate long distances to reach the spawning grounds. If they have good conditions and not many other fish in their way they can move fast upstream and that means that you need to have your eyes at the water and the fly swinging at exact time they stop where you are. It is a lottery that make the reward very big when it happens that a baltic salmon strikes the fly.

This week was all about hitting that open window when the fish was active. Fist one to hook into a baltic salmon was Patrick. On upper neck we heard him calling and Tyler ran up to him with the net. Safely landed and after a quick photo Shawn was calling from The ledge.

“I got one also”

Tyler ran down and netted another fish within 10 minutes.

Patrick and Shawn was all happy with their fish from Kengis Bruk, but as many of us has tried before, being the one without a fish in the group is never funny. But Richard got his revenge. In another small window of activity he hooked into a fantastic fish. A 107cm big baltic salmon. Just outside The pine on zone 1 the fish striked his fly and this time there was no doubt, this was a big fish. After a good fight, safe landing he returned the fish to the river, so it could continue it’s journey. Well done Richard.

Big fish makes things difficult once in a while. Just a few cast after this fantastic fish Richard lost another one and i seemed like he cracked the code to the late season fishing. The day after he was lucky to land another good fish at zone 1.

There is always stories to tell after a week of fishing for salmon. And they will live for a long time. It’s is a pleasure for us to share these memories with our guests and be a part of these stories.

“This was how i did” Shawn is telling stories at zone 1.

Now we are looking at the last full week of the season and cross fingers that we will have a good ending of the season.

Tight lines!
