Week 24 Will Janne catch another salmon at Kengis?

In week 24 we welcomed our friends from Finland. Pekka, Janne, Kimmo, Ville, Tomi & Sami has been at Kengis Bruk many seasons and know the place very well. They also know that Janne is good at landing the first fish and he did this year again.

The week started a bit slow and just like we thought the first in the first week was the forerunners, so it was slow in the beginning of the week. We did not see that many fish and there was not much action. Not even the pike and grayling striked our flies. The good thing about the many visits at Kengis Bruk, is that you know it comes down to the last cast and the guys know the water very well. They kept fishing, had a good time at our lodge and waited for the fish to come. Tomi trained his two handed casting and in the end he did both double and single spey cast. It is a pleasure to give our guests memories and skills to bring home.

Then the fish started to come in bigger numbers and there where some action in the pools. As we told, Janne got the first one. Then our friends has some strikes and lost a few fish. It now felt like the fish was more active. When something heavy strikes your fly in the hard current you hope it’s a salmon, but this time a good sized pike tricked Pekka. Let’s hope it is a big baltic salmon next time.

Sami was the lucky guy in the group this year. When the fishing picked up he was there with his fly and managed to land two fish in the last days. That is how you want to end a good fishing week. Good job Sami!

Catching a big baltic salmon takes requires many casts and time at the river. These guys knows that and they put in the time and effort that is needed. But nature is hard to predict and this season everything is a little late, but as we saw with our Finnish friends, fishing got better in the end of the week.

Conor and Lars had one of those night you will remember for a long time. Now the fish came in higher numbers and the saw several schools entering the pools. They both had some strikes, some that pulled put the loop between their fingers and they both managed to land a fish each. Good times, big smiles and good way to end the week.

More and more fish is now swimming upstream in our big river system, so next week is gonna be exciting. Let’s cross fingers for a good week!
