Expectations vs. reality

The most asked question we get is; “How many fish will I catch?” And we have to be honest. We don’t know.

What is it that keeps us in the water hour after hour? That make us spare money for the next trip? To cast and cast and cast? The dream of a big baltic salmon striking our fly.

But what are expectations and what is reality? The dream lives in all of us standing in the river swinging flies and waiting for the right moment, but let’s be honest - sometimes it’s not coming. But what happens then? We really want our guests to enjoy the full experience of a week in Kengis, so remember all the small things that add to a perfect week with your fishing friends.

In the first part of the season the midnight sun makes us forget all about time, and what a great moment when you are standing in the water around midnight and the sun is shining in your eyes. A guest once said; “My best memory is a GT in front of the lodge with midnight sun shining in my eyes” And that was from a week where he caught the biggest fish.

Later in the season when we start to have the cold nights, you can be lucky to see the northern lights dancing over the sky. So what are we trying to say? Remember the surroundings. Listen to the big rapids roaring, enjoy time together with like minded souls that all share the same dream and enjoy the Kengis feeling.

Just to remind us that we need to pay attention to the things around us in order to get the full experience.

The expectation will always be high, and they have to be high, when you decide to spend a week in a river up north in Sweden. Just remember that the reality does not always live up to the expectations and that is a part of the game.

We are doing this hand in hand with nature and that is one thing we can’t or will not control. Torne River is a big river system and many things can affect the fishing and weeks can be very different depending on the weather. The river conditions can change fast and it all affects the fishing.

Remember the expectations and be ready for the reality.

Tight lines!
